Shiny and New

Sorry for being MIA. I've just been busy worrying about house stuff. But so far so good and we should be closing tomorrow. I'm worried about the weather possibly postponing things, but I haven't heard anything yet. We've contacted the utility companies and I've been compiling a list of tools we'll need and projects to tackle right away. And last night I ordered our refrigerator, washer and dryer. I can't wait to have a big refrigerator! I chose one with a bottom-mount freezer, because I hate bending over to try and see what is in the fridge, especially on the top shelf. And we both agreed that we would go ahead and spend the extra money while we have it for the stainless steel one. We will probably want to update the kitchen in a few years, so it made sense to us to buy a more updated refrigerator now than later. I hated to spend a lot of money, but I know that I needed to make the investment now in an appliance that would last and not be outgrown too quickly. That doesn't mean I went whole-hog though. I personally would have preferred the freezer drawer, but I couldn't quite justify spending the extra $200 plus just because I'd like it more. So, it's just the plain old swing-door for me. I'm sure I'll survive. ;)

Pants and Such

Went shopping on Saturday with Holly and made a lot of progress on my resolution to improve my wardrobe, including pants! Pants had become my arch-enemy, so I was super excited to find some Gap pants that actually fit properly. Some pairs could use a hemming, which I'll be doing soon I hope, but overall they're great. And it seems as though I have definitely been influenced by Joanna and Joslyn in their attempt to dress more like a French woman. Lots of black, blue and gray, and the stripes don't stop here. I also got a $5 deal on a gray turtleneck with black stripes at Forever 21. And your eyes don't deceive you, there is something a bit bumpy about that blue dress. It's a maternity dress. And no, I'm not pregnant. But the dress is awesome. They actually took the XS off the baby-bumped hanger for me so I could try it on. I'm weird, I know. So, next steps? Accessories- shoes, bags and jewelry. I asked for a few things I've found on etsy for my birthday, so we'll see if I can make some progress without spending anymore cash monies. Not pictured is the cute octopus tee I snagged at Old Navy, a floral cross-front top also from ON, the F21 top, and a Groucho-faced tee from Kohl's. I heart Groucho.

Fingers Crossed!

It has been a long week for us. Somehow it seems worse than last week, which was technically more hectic. We have tomorrow off work, which is oh so nice. But it's house inspection day. There are seriously no other houses in our neighborhoods and price range, so please cross your fingers for us!

Perfect Treat

Josh put some dark chocolate covered almonds in my Christmas stocking. I decided to bring them to work and put them in a candy jar near my desk. They have turned out to be the perfect little treat during my work day. After all, dark chocolate is good for you and almonds are full of vitamin E, so I'm doing myself a favor by eating a few every day.

One Week Check-up

Sorry I've been quiet the past couple of days. We're trying to buy another house and currently dealing the tug of war contract stuff. I'll share more if things go well.

Now, I don't intend to do a weekly post on my resolutions. That would be a little too obsessive, even for me. But, I did want to do a little first week check-up to see how I'm integrating my resolutions into my year so far.

-Last night, after a quick shower, was spent almost entirely in bed reading with a cozy dinner of tomato soup and grilled cheese. I might need to make this a weekly thing, which is a great use for the nights Josh has practice.
-Tuesday night I spent an hour reading and taking notes from The Camera and reading the first chapter of Complete Digital Photography.
-I walked 1 mile each day last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I took a break Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I did my old routine. After having done almost nothing but lay in bed the four days prior to New Year I have been quite sore the past few days!
-I still need to call the dentist office, but I did set aside money in the savings fund this week for my next round of dental work.
-I also set aside a little money for travel sometime this year. We've got a lot of expenses coming up depending on how the house prospects go, but travel is important to me and I intend to give it priority.
-I've been poking around corners of the blog and my magazine collection for ideas to incorporate in our new household, whenever the time comes to set it up- taking notes, folding page corners, making bookmarks, etc.

We'll see how well I can keep it up!

Resolutions Version 2009

I've been thinking about what resolutions I would like to make for this new year for several weeks now. Last year was the first time I've really made a strong list and accomplishing just some of them made me feel really great. I had been keeping up with my progress on a monthly basis, which I think helped so I'll try to do that again as well. I've got a list of new resolutions as well as some from last year that I want to continue, renew, or actually get done this time.

New Resolutions:
.Read 15 books this year
.Set up an efficient new household
.Finish my needed dental work
.Try yoga and tai chi
.Watch 5 foreign films
.Travel more
.Cross 5 things of life-goals list

Continued Resolutions:
.More physical activities: pilates & walking
.Study photography and experiment
.Keep up with Newsweek reading
.See our friends more often
.Improve my wardrobe
.Be much more money conscious
.Try 4 new restaurants
