Friday ConeZone #5

It's Friday, so you know what that means. ConeZone time! I have had a weird week so far, and I have to say on this fine Friday I could sure use a drink. So I thought in this week's ConeZone we'd revisit Conan's attempt to learn bartending. After watching this clip I can't quite decide if I'm happy or sad that Conan won't be serving me my end-of-the-day cocktail. Also, if you guys haven't heard Conan has got himself a Twitter account now, so be sure and check it out- http://twitter.com/ConanOBrien.

Apartment Therapy Cure

As I mentioned I got the Apartment Therapy eight-step home cure book for my birthday. I decided to get started on it last week and over the weekend, despite my myriad of illnesses, I managed to take care of most of the steps for week one.

.Week One
Make a complete list of repairs and solutions: half done
Vacuum and mop the floors: check
Remove on item from your apartment and put it outside: check
Buy fresh flowers: check
Sit for ten minutes in a part of your home you never sit in: check
Look into earth friendly cleaning products: already done for the most part

I changed out a light bulb/put the extensions on our gutter downspouts/tidied the guest bedroom/vacuumed, swept and mopped/sat at the dining room table for breakfast/listed our old dining chairs on Craigslist/picked up more vinegar and baking soda for cleaning/bought a bouquet of spray roses. Not bad.

Friday ConeZone #4

This week's installment of the Friday ConeZone is chocked full of Olympic spirit. In 2002 when the winter games were in Salt Lake City Conan decided he wanted to become an Olympic speed skater. So he recruited gold medalist Dan Jansen to show him the ropes. As you might assume, Conan wasn't the most attentive pupil, ha. Enjoy!

Momma wants a Brand New Bag

I am trying to think up some ways to get some spending money. Between taxes, car repairs, being out sick, and a firm desire to take a vacation or two this year I am very low on spending money. Josh makes extra money by playing gigs with Back In Black and his other bands. If only I had such a skill that I could easily monetize! I replied to an ad on Craigslist today from an event coordinator looking for an assistant for the occasional weekend wedding/party/corporate function. We'll see if anything comes of that. Looking for someone to clean your house? Maybe you'd be interested in discussing the stocking of your freezer with some meals? I enjoy pulling weeds. Perhaps I should put up my own Craigslist ad: "Girl desperate to shop willing to trade domestic skills for cash." Because I wants:

Going By the Numbers

Pray for me y'all. I'm going to begin working on our taxes tonight, and I'll need it. Every year I do our taxes, and every year I gain a couple pounds and wrinkles at the same time. I might do some sort of cleanse once I'm finished just to try and undo some of this damage, ha. It would be nice if our tax situation stayed the same every year, but somehow it never does. Last year was actually pretty easy, the year before made me consider a straight jacket. Who knows what this year has in store for me. I don't think we have any long term capital gains (praise Jeebus), but who knows what being homeowners will mean to the math when we don't have that fancy tax credit to cash in on this time around. We set aside money every month for the taxes we have to pay on Josh's Rock School income, but it's sort of an arbitrary number based on what we've had to pay in the past. Anyway, send me some good math vibes. I'm desperate. :)

Best In Show

I've settled in on the couch with my jambalaya for Mardis Gras to watch the second night of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. My favorite breed is the Wirehaired Fox Terrier. I love Westminster time!

Friday ConeZone #3

Welcome to the third installment of my Friday ConeZone! Here in supposed-to-be-hot Texas we just set a new record with 12.5" of snow in 24 hours. It is a winter wonderland out my window, which means all life has practically come to a halt. People here tend to completely shut down when real winter weather hits. A bunch of people have lost power, although luckily not us. Anyway, what with all this snow I decided to share a video of Conan out on his own snow adventure during a previous NYC blizzard. Enjoy and please come back next week for another trip into the ConeZone!

Snow Day II

We're on snow day two after about a foot of snow fell here all day yesterday and into the night. Luckily we still have power, although our satellite is out. Our trees are still standing, although some of them are "resting" on the roof. Hopefully they'll bounce back when they aren't weighed down with all the white stuff. I'm regretting eating our last cans of soup on Tuesday though. Soup sure would be good right about now and I don't know if I have ingredients in the pantry to make any. Oh well. We've got mini egg rolls and buffalo wings in the freezer, I'm sure we'll survive, ha. Ran out and took some pictures real quick like this morning and then ran back in for coffee. It's cold! Here are a few pics, more here. I'll be back later today with the Friday ConeZone!

Snow Day

We're having a snow day here in Texas, of all places. There is already around 5 inches on the ground in our yard, and it's supposed to keep snowing through the evening. Josh is playing video games and I'm going to do some reading- I got the Apartment Therapy book for my birthday, and have Happier checked out from the library. Also thinking about something good and hot for lunch- like french toast maybe. Hoping later we'll watch movies and maybe play a game. Happy snow day!

Friday ConeZone #2

It's Friday which means it's once again time to enter the ConeZone. Today I wanted to share Conan's opening monologue and musical number from his stint hosting the 58th Emmy Awards. This is one of my favorite Conan clips- partly because of a shared love for The Music Man, and partly because it contains what I think is probably one of the best awards show jokes I've ever heard (rule #3 in his monologue, fyi). Plus he just looks so darn handsome in his tux, right? So, here we go. Won't you step inside the ConeZone with me? If you missed the first ConeZone you can see it here.

Birthday Wish List

You know the drill. That time of year rolls around and people start prodding you for birthday gift ideas. Here are the few things I asked for this year, aside from my kickass tattoo that Josh bought for me. A couple of books, a couple of movies, some color film, and the usual gift cards.
