They Say It's My Birthday

Today is my birthday- my 30th birthday! And we're having a very low-key evening. Of course we've had an incredibly low-key week because of our winter weather here. Monday night it started raining in the evening, then turned to sleet, and then snow. Schools were closed (not that I have class on Tuesdays now anyway), and the boss man said to stay home. The thing is, it never got above freezing Tuesday, so the ice and snow stayed right where it was. Wednesday classes were canceled. Work was a no-go. Then it was the same game Thursday. We did leave the house Thursday, to pick up my prescription and some Sonic, but that was it for me. Josh went in to work for awhile, but regretted it, as the roads were not great and the people on the road were even worse. And then, last night, it started snowing again. The 2 or so inches that had fallen Monday night hadn't gone anywhere, but they were quickly covered with a fresh layer. Just under 5" fell over last night into midday today. So, I got another snow day for my birthday! The sun came out at last and the temperature actually just reached 32 degrees this afternoon, so a little melting occurred. It's finally supposed to get above freezing tomorrow, so hopefully everyone will be able to dig out of their hibernation holes.

I should have been way more productive with this time off. I did some homework, and of course I still have the weekend, but I could have done more. I did find out that I was off a bit on some of my due dates, and in my favor, so that was helpful in alleviating a little stress. And this winter weather will postpone my Government test that I was concerned I might miss while we're out of town, so that's good also. And we'll gloss over the fact that I did absolutely no cleaning, nor did any household projects get done. I did make pancakes Tuesday morning, with enough to last me two weeks of school mornings. So, I guess it's not all been wasted, ha.

Mostly Josh and I have had lots of hanging out time. He's played lots of video games, I did some cooking and baking, we've had movie marathons and watched a LOT of Simpsons DVDs. We've obviously lost some income, but we've gained some rest and relaxation. Of course, we'll get some more of that when we go on vacation next week. Birthday cruise! Today I made grass-fed sausage and french toast with bananas for my birthday breakfast. We ventured out for beer, snacks, and pizza for my birthday evening, some of which has already been consumed. :) Oh, and I bought myself one other birthday present too.

Rainy Day Music

We left the sun behind us in California to come back to the cloudy, damp weather that seems to be becoming the norm around here as of late. Which of course calls for some John Coltrane.

Rainy Day Rant

More like rainy week rant. It's been raining since Friday evening, and it's making me miserable. It means that the ground is so saturated with water that all the cracks around doorways and such that had previously closed up are all coming back out big time throughout the house. Just in time for a bunch of our friends coming to see the house this weekend. Not to mention that I was really looking forward to using the back yard and deck for the gathering. I had high hopes for setting up the badminton and horseshoes, but now who knows? And I had finally found a good deal on the globe lights I wanted out there too. Obviously this wet weather has REALLY got me down. And looking into putting gutters on the house. How does one have gutters and Christmas lights? Cause Christmas lights are pretty high on my list of priorities.

The one thing cheering me up? Beatles Rock Band.

Good Thoughts

Please think good thoughts for my sister Nicci and her husband Bryan. They'll be riding out Hurricane Ike in Houston. And Uncle Jeremy, who is on hurricane duty at the plant. And of course everyone who has to deal with this big, scary storm. Dad, Lindsey, Sherri and Austin have all already evacuated to San Antonio.

Recurring Dreams

As it pours, and pours, and pours some more I'm having flashbacks to my previous yearning for wellies. Still just dreaming, unfortunately.

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lightening Bolt

Okay, technically it's just mid-March, so nothing is on it's way out yet. But it is definitely Spring in Texas. How do I know? Oh, let's just say a little rain cloud told me.

Blech

Dudes. I'm sick again. What the H. I'm hoping it will pass quickly. Maybe it's sinus problems from the weather shifts. Yeah, it was hot last Friday. And then cold on Sunday. And then this morning we had freezing fog. I had no idea what freezing fog was, and until the nice man on television finally explained it to me I refused to open my door for fear I would walk directly into a cloud of solid ice. Once my fears were laid to rest and we established that Josh's way to work was more or less free of accidents we left for work. I was planning on working tomorrow, but now that I feel totally yucky I'm think maybe not. I've got about a trillion things to get done around the apartment too, so either way I'll be busy, but at least I can be busy in my pajamas if at home. Am I right? What, you don't walk to the laundry room in your pajamas? Stop trying to make me feel bad.

Wishy-Washy Weather

Sometimes I wish that what they taught me in school about there being four seasons were apparent in my surroundings. After it snowed on Thanksgiving I figured I had better get my sweaters pulled out and my t-shirts stowed away for the next few months. Last week it was cloudy and grey out, while being comfortably warm. Sunday it was bright and sunshiny while there was a nip in the windy air. And now they tell me that it's going to be 80 degrees this weekend? I guess I shouldn't be bothered. I'm sure I can manage with the uni-seasonal items in my closet until it's in the 40's on Monday.
