One Foot in Front of the Other

I completed my school application last night, and got my transcript ready to mail to them today. It's just community college, but it's the first step. Unfortunately there are so many more steps to follow! I'm feeling really good about this though. I've decided my big, ultimate, dream goals are to either work for Conan/Jeff Ross/Conaco Productions or to work at the Paley Center. I'll be lucky to get a job in the television industry at all, probably, but it doesn't hurt to have something big to shoot for, right?

I'm feeling a little low and frustrated at the same time though. When you finally figure out what it is you think you should be doing with your life, you kind of want to be able to start doing it right away. Trying to exercise patience is not going to be easy, but it must be done. I'm also on the downside of the high that was last Thursday. I get sad after Christmas, post-vacation, etc., so the comedown from the greatest day in my life is a bit rough. I'll manage though. I'm already looking at internships with TBS/Turner/Time Warner/Warner Bros., as well as the Paley Center. And Conan's new show is set to start November 8th. So there are some things to look forward to. ;)

Turkey Day

Tomorrow is our national day of thanks. I have too much to be thankful for to share it all here- last year was the best year of my life and surprisingly this year has not paled in comparison so far. We've been blessed to buy our first house, visit new and fun parts of our country to see and celebrate events in our friends lives, made lots of new friends, found new interests, learned new things, and broadened our horizons. We've been very lucky indeed. What better way to celebrate good times than with laughter, right? So, I share the gift of laughter with you, in the form of the most hilarious Thanksgiving sitcom episode ever- "Turkeys Away" from WKRP In Cincinnati.

Glee

Did you guys see "Glee" on Fox? They originally aired it back in May, but they aired a Director's Cut version of the pilot yesterday and are apparently going to show it again tomorrow. There is finally a show that I'm actually interested in watching. Although that's probably a bad sign right off the bat, since the shows I like tend to get canceled. Anyway, I thought it was clever and funny, so I wanted to recommend it. Maybe you should watch it tomorrow. Or you could watch it right now on Hulu, like I did.

They're Back!

One of my favorite summer shows has returned! The History Detectives were back in action last night with some great mysteries to solve. The one about the WWII pilot's war diary was especially good- I cried! Check your local PBS listing to see if it airs on your public television station. And if it does, you've got some good TV to watch this summer. I think I might even submit a little mystery of my own.

My Neighbor

40 years ago today Mister Rogers' Neighborhood came on television. There aren't words available to me to express how much Mister Rogers, along with Sesame Street and additional public television, mean to me. I know that there continues to be a discussion in our society about how television can affect the young mind, but I have no doubt whatsoever that I would not be the person I am without the exposure I had as a child to these programs. I learned so much from Mr. Rogers, and his dedication to the education and well-being of all children he could manage to reach makes him one of the most admirable people of our current society, in my opinion. To put it as simply as possible, a person like Mr. Rogers gives me faith in humanity. If you'd like to have a visit with the my favorite neighbor, you should check out Fred Rogers: America's Favorite Neighbor. It's not only interesting, it's inspiring. This clip is maybe one of the best things I've heard lately. I think I'll probably come back to it repeatedly when I need to feel good about something, for those times when it's hard to feel good about anything.

Just like watching the detectives...

Okay, three posts in one day might be a bit much. And three posts in less than 12 hours definitely might be overkill. Nevertheless, I couldn't let the day go by without informing everyone that tonight is the return of one of my favorite shows. I L-O-V-E History Detectives! If you haven't seen or heard of this show before, it's sort of Antiques Roadshow meets Sherlock Holmes. People ask the History Detectives to help verify stories and authenticate items that may have historical importance. I've seen them cover all sorts of things- from paintings, deeds, and stocks to a cannon and even an entire house. This show comes on PBS, a rich source of quality television. Obviously, not everyone's local affiliate runs the same schedule, so check your local PBS station to see if they will be airing it. Trust me, it's well worth the watch!

P.S.- You might even recognize some of the investigators as appraisers from Antiques Roadshow!
